So I had this crazy idea for a book where a group of bros travel with a bunch of egg heads to a foreign planet and really get their ass kicked up, down and around the solar system. The idea is simple.

  • What would happen if earth developed technology that could easily allow us to escape our atmosphere?
  • What would happen if there were two habitable adjacent planets in our solar system?
  • What if the group of bros were habitual smoking unhinged combat veterans with drinking problems and a healthy dose of PTSD?
  • What if cats and dogs lived with each other?

Okay not the cats and dogs portion but you get my vibe. So the journey of the lone writer begins.

After a couple years of writing for two years every Wednesday night, the book is done. Well I say its done. Two things I’ve learned about being a novice writer.

  • Writing is an amazing outlet and is absolutely joyful
  • Editing your work is the worst thing in the world

So if you think you can write a book, submit it to a publisher and let them run with it and publish it and sit back and make money as a side hustle, your wrong! In fact, most publishers wont touch a new writer with no clout or celebrity status with a ten foot pole. Its too expensive for them and more than often will lead to failure. You will actually have to pay in yourself. And there is a good chance you wont make any money. In fact, most published books never sell more than 250 copies. The reality of being a new author is a tough pill to swallow. Fortunately, I submitted my work to Tactical16 Publishing and made it into their January quarterly publishing cycle. We’ll see how this goes!

Its real when you print it out. Getting close to the final editing cut of Three Planets. $65 to print it out at Staples and you really do get the full effect when have your book in hand with a red pen. Cat Tax.

12/29/2023 A year later

Its been over a year since I’ve been accepted into the Tactical 16 publishing. I must say, writing a book takes about as much time as publishing one. First off, I feel so very sorry for my editor. That poor woman had to endure a whole lot of pain editing my book. Even after myself and her reading the book at least 7 times, I’m still finding tiny grammar errors.

Book in hand!

Since our initial edit, I’ve been able to receive a hard copy and now have a book in hand. I’ve had tremendous supports from friends and family on wanting to purchase one as soon as its available to the public.

I’ve also converted the book into an “Audiobook.” This means I simply had a robot read the book into a MP3. Listening to the book has dramatically increased my read speed and ability to edit on the fly.

Outside of that, its been a three year journey so far for one book. Patience has been a key factor as I want to go light speed but the publisher lags behind a little bit.
